Applying to the Fund for the Restoration of the Jewish cemeteries in Austria

Owners of Jewish cemeteries can file applications for funding to restore them. The law stipulates that the owner is to contribute funds in equal amount to those awarded by the Austrian government, meaning the Austrian government and the cemetery owner each bear half of the costs of the restoration. In addition, the Fund is also open to receiving funding from other sources and financial contributions by the provinces can be paid into the Fund or to a restoration project directly.

Funding is only awarded for the restoration of a cemetery on the proviso that its upkeep and maintenance is lastingly secured. Therefore, payments from the Fund are only made when the local municipality has undertaken to ensure the continued upkeep of the respective cemetery for a period of at least 20 years.

The payments are always made on an as-needed basis. Please consider the guidlines for awarding funds.
