Cemetery Währing

Cemetery

Description

The cemetery, which has an area of 21,497 m², was originally purchased by the City of Vienna in 1784 in accordance with an order of Emperor Joseph II, and subsequently enlarged following further purchases of land. By 1879, 8,593 people had been buried there. Unfortunately, most of the headstones are made of Mühlendorf marble or sandstone and the inscriptions are therefore illegible.
