Description

Stockerau’s Jewish cemetery is situated in the immediate vicinity of the former synagogue – the present-day Evangelical church – opposite the municipal cemetery on the outskirts of the town. It was established in 1874 by the Jewish Community’s Minjan Society. There are around 140 graves situated on the grounds, which are encompassed by a robust wall running along the cemetery’s periphery. The cemetery was restored between 2011 and 2016 using funds granted by the Fund for the Restoration of the Jewish Cemeteries. The cemetery is kept locked, the key can be obtained from the local municipal authority.

Description

General contracting services

The services to be performed by the contracting team specialized in plannung restoration and statics cover all planning for the restoration of the headstones , in particular the necessary specialized planning and production of a list of services for the construction work, the call to tender, the determination of the best bid and all monitoring and coordination of the subsequent construction work.

Description

Execution of works on the cemetary wall and monument

Renewal of the wall coping and restoration of the entrance gate

In one part of the circumferential wall of the cemetery remembrance plaques which, even at an earlier date, could no longer be attributed were mounted and the wall was then converted into a wall of remembrance. At this part of the wall, the wall coping was renewed in such a way that it also protected against the weather.

Renewal of the monument's concrete slab

The existing monument, which commemorates the Jewish forced laborers murdered in the Deutschkreutz camp was renovated by replacing the large concrete slab.

Clearing and leveling work

The cemetery was mown and leveled in consensus with the Rabbi. Wildly growing plants which endnaged safety of movement and the substance of the headstones were removed.

Contracting services inventory and monument protection

All headstones were recorded and numbered. Additionally, damage to the headstones was recorded and the restoration aims were defined in consensus with the Federal Office for the Protection of Monuments.
